Welcome back to one of the most popular Bracketology features here at ESPN Insider. "Bracket Math" provides an up-to-the-minute assessment of the entire Division I men's basketball landscape between Bracketology updates. You'll know who we'd put in the bracket -- and why -- at any given point of the season.

"Bracket Math" will increase in frequency, appearing every Wednesday beginning this week. And, of course, you can find it here daily (and more!) during the frenzy that is Championship Week. It will always tell you where your team stands in the NCAA tournament selection process. We hope you like this behind-the-scenes look into all things Bracket!

This edition of "Bracket Math" includes all games through Tuesday, Jan. 31. Rankings reflect an up-to-date S curve from yours truly, posing as one hypothetical member of the NCAA men's basketball committee.

The S curve

This is where teams would fall if Selection Sunday was Jan. 31. Remember, the curve flows left to right, then right to left, then back again as you read down the chart. Teams with an asterisk currently lead their conference and project to receive an automatic bid, per the rules of Bracketology.
