Miami has taken a different direction in recruiting behind new head coach Al Golden and so far it's yielded positive results. On Friday, Golden received word that defensive back Thomas Finnie (Miami, Fla./Central) was switching his commitment from South Carolina to Florida and it was followed up by commitments from offensive lineman Taylor Gadbois (Dallas, Ga./East Paulding) and defensive end Ricardo Williams (Homestead, Fla./Homestead).Williams, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound speed rusher, wasn't even on the Hurricanes' radar before Golden arrived, according to head coach Bobby McCray."Once coach Golden came in they really started going after Rico pretty hard," McCray said. "I guess they saw something they liked."Williams had offers from UCF, Marshall, Kansas State, USF, Washington and West Virginia. However he had appeared to pare down his list to UCF, Marshall, Texas Tech and North Carolina. However, a weekend visit to Miami was enough to make him stay home. For now the planned visit to North Carolina on Jan. 21 is up in the air.Either way, McCray is happy that his four-year starter has found a home."We've been working with Rico since he left the eighth grade and we've taken him to all these colleges over the year," McCray said. "Now he's ready to move on and take the next step and I'm just happy for him."The Hurricanes are far from finished and with around seven spots in this class remaining to be filled, Golden and staff are targeting quarterback Kevin Sousa (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona), a Wake Forest commit."Kevin and I had a visit from coach Golden last week at our high school," said Sousa's advisor Anthony Paradiso via text message. "He offered Kevin and wants him to give Miami an official visit at the end of the month."Paradiso says that Sousa is considering it and they will further discuss the opportunity.
