As four-star running back Mike Blakely (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee) prepares for the start of training camp on Monday he's been quietly making some changes in his recruiting. For starters the 5-foot-9, 180-pounder will be making a decision a little earlier than originally expected."It's going to be a little earlier because I'm probably going to be graduating in December," Blakely said. "I have been working real hard taking classes online to allow me to do this."Because of his increase in schoolwork, Blakely hasn't been traveling as much as he thought he would. He still made visits to Florida, South Carolina and Clemson, however, and will expand on that in the fall."I've already got my official visit to Auburn planned for the weekend of September 24th," Blakely said. "I'm pretty sure they play South Carolina that weekend."Auburn has been the school that has been recruiting Blakely the most this summer and while some reports have the Tigers pulling even with Florida as his favorite, Blakely lists six schools as his final list."My final group is going to be, Florida, Auburn, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Southern Cal," Blakely said. "I feel really happy to have the opportunity to become part of any of those programs."Blakely started his high school career at Manatee as a return specialist and a backup quarterback to Brion Carnes, a Class of 2010 signee with Nebraska. He made the move to running back full time after his sophomore year but still has the versatility to be used as a receiver if the scheme dictates it.His position in college has been the subject of much debate, but Blakely sees himself as a running back."I've never really played wide receiver unless the coach just wanted to find a new way to get me the ball," Blakely said. "And the slot is fun but I just don't see myself as a slot receiver in college."I like the running back position. I feel like I can be most productive getting carries and being part of the passing game out of the backfield."Right now Blakely is itching to get back on the field and prepare for the Hurricanes' nationally-televised opener against Tampa (Fla.) Plant."It's my senior year and I think we've got a great team," Blakely said. "I feel good going into the year and I'm just ready to compete and win."
