• Cameron adds to Red Sox's defense

The Red Sox continue to focus on run prevention by reaching a tentative agreement with Mike Cameron, a premium defensive outfielder, on a two-year deal. Cameron has spent most of his career in center and made his money by running down more fly balls than most of his peers, although the Red Sox are indicating now that they'd put him in left and leave Jacoby Ellsbury in center. Ellsbury is a 70 runner once he's underway, but defensive metrics agree that he was below average in center this year. The Red Sox pay attention to statistical measures of defense, so I wouldn't be shocked to see them either slide Ellsbury to left and put Cameron in center or use Ellsbury as trade bait for another bat to play left or first base.
