• Brewers need to trade Fielder and focus on future

The Brewers are at a major inflection point at the major league level. They reached the playoffs in 2008 at some cost to the farm system, but given the length of their postseason drought, no one should regret those decisions.

They came into 2009 with thoughts of contention, but the starting pitching wasn't good enough on paper and, other than Yovani Gallardo, underperformed expectations. And while the offense as a whole has been strong, the injury to Rickie Weeks and the implosions of J.J. Hardy and Bill Hall meant they couldn't just bash their way to contention.General manager Doug Melvin now has to decide whether to try to make one more push for a playoff berth in 2010 or accept that 2008 was a peak and try to rebuild. From my perspective, it looks like tearing it down makes a lot more sense than propping it up.
