In late December offensive lineman Chris Bryant (Chicago, Ill./Simeon) seemed like a good bet for an eventual commitment to Michigan. He had made official visits to Michigan and Arizona and had planned to announce his college choice on Jan. 21. Bryant had nothing but positive things to say about the Wolverines and did not seem too concerned about the job status of Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez. Then came the firing of Rodriguez, followed by Bryant saying he might push back his announcement date. However, the hiring of Brady Hoke to be the new leader of the Michigan football program seems to be a positive to Bryant."With him coming in -- they were going to pick someone they thought was best for the job -- I'm pretty sure it's going to be a great fit," Bryant said. "I don't know too much about him, but I expect great things from him."Bryant has not yet spoken to Hoke, but that will soon happen."I talked to the recruiting coordinator [Wednesday]," Bryant said. "He said he was going to have coach Hoke contact me."Bryant has made official visits to Michigan and Arizona and plans to take at least one more visit and possibly two."I'm going to Illinois Jan. 21," Bryant said. "I was offered by Indiana (Wednesday). That's a late one, but I want to show them my respect and take a look."The 6-foot-5, 330-pounder said he now plans to announce his college choice on Jan. 28 at 7:30 pm at Simeon High School."I don't have a leader," Bryant said. "I haven't been on my official [visit] to Illinois yet."Taylor plans to reschedule Michigan visitDefensive back Raymon Taylor (Highland Park, Mich./Highland Park) committed to Indiana over the summer, however, when Hoosier coach Bill Lynch was fired Taylor decided to open the recruiting process back up to some extent. He made official visits to Toledo and Iowa the first two weekends in December. He also scheduled visits to Michigan Jan. 7, Indiana Jan. 14 and Illinois Jan. 21.When Rodriguez was fired, Taylor's visit to Michigan was called off. With the hiring of Hoke, Taylor plans to soon reschedule the short trip to Ann Arbor."I know [Brady Hoke] is a great coach," Taylor said. "I hope he can turn the program around. I'm just waiting until he gets his coaching staff together so I can go on my visit there. Hopefully I'll visit Michigan the last weekend [in January]."Taylor says he is still committed to the Hoosiers, at least for now."I'm still committed, but after my last visit I'll decide for sure," Taylor said. The 5-10, 175-pounder, who played cornerback and running back during his senior season, intercepted five passes in seven games. He rushed for 879 yards with 13 touchdowns. All five schools on Taylor's list have offered a scholarship and are recruiting him as a cornerback.
