As the Vancouver Winter Games enter their final weekend, I have one suggestion: Get into curling!
Get into it not like these effete trillionaires, but statistically. You see, nearly all winter sports are resistant to even basic sabermetric analysis. Some, like hockey, feature continuous action, making it difficult to break it down into plays that we can analyze. (Of course, there are researchers doing amazing work in hockey anyway, but as George W. Bush used to like to say, "It's hard.") Many others, from downhill skiing to figure skating, depend much more on athlete execution than strategy; when Lindsey Vonn crashed, sophisticated analytics said her chances of winning went to, uh, zero.
