Chiefs' Jeremy Maclin takes no break from practice after his weekend wedding

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Three days after getting married in his hometown of St. Louis, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin was on the practice field with his Kansas City Chiefs teammates on Tuesday for their initial offseason practice.

Maclin said afterward he felt he owed that to the Chiefs and himself after having one of the least productive seasons of his career in 2016.

“I’m working, I’m working,’’ Maclin said. “Like I said when we first started [offseason workouts], I’ve got something to prove. I struggled a little bit last year with injuries and everything else. I’m healthy and looking forward to getting this thing back on the road.’’

Maclin missed all of four games and most of another with a groin injury last season. Even when he was in the lineup, he didn’t usually look right. Maclin dropped 4 percent of the catchable passes that came his way last season, compared to 1.6 percent in 2015.

Maclin talked when the Chiefs started their organized offseason work last month that he was determined to return to the form he showed in 2015, his first season in Kansas City. Then, he caught 87 passes for 1,088 yards and eight touchdowns. Those numbers dropped to 44, 536 and two last year.

So he felt compelled to be on the practice field working with quarterback Alex Smith and the rest of his teammates when the Chiefs began on-field work.

“Both of us are in on that,’’ Smith said, referring to Maclin’s down 2016 season. “I do feel like for a lot of different reasons we weren’t as productive as we could be, should be. I’m looking forward to remedying that.’’

Maclin estimated about 10 Chiefs made the trip to St. Louis for the wedding to Adia Kuzma. Smith, wide receiver Tyreek Hill and coach Andy Reid were among them.

“I appreciated those guys coming out and helping us celebrate our big day,’’ Maclin said. “It was definitely a good time and I think it kind of goes to show how close we are as a team and how much guys really appreciate each other.

“It’s a great moment in my life, a day I’ll remember for the rest of my life. I’m just happy I got to marry my best friend, for sure.’’
