• Daniel Alfredsson tops list of trade options

The trade deadline is a month away. General managers around the league will have until Feb. 28 to determine if they are buyers or sellers. At this point, we can see only a few teams that fit into the latter category. Most teams will be seeking to add the final piece -- or pieces -- to their playoff puzzle.

Perusing the rosters, I've found five guys that I think should be moved, either because they simply need a change of scenery or as part of a team's bigger picture rebuilding plan or both. Here's my short list of guys who would be wise to see a travel agent.

Daniel Alfredsson, RW, Ottawa Senators

As the Senators continue to free-fall in the Eastern Conference and a management overhaul seems imminent, I think the time might be right for the club to gauge potential interest in their longtime captain.

At 38, his production has dropped off significantly this season, with just 28 points and a minus-12 rating in 50 games. I think this decline has more to do with the level of help around him. When a competitive guy like Alfredsson reaches a certain age, he needs to be better supported.
