We've moved past the midway point of the regular season and we're speeding toward All-Star Weekend. The playoff chases -- particularly in the Western Conference -- are air-tight. There won't be much that separates some of the teams that qualify for the postseason and those who don't.

With that in mind, I've decided to devote this edition of the Monday 10 to a group of players that need to be better in the second half of the season. I've put my list in alphabetical order, so I'm not playing any favorites with these guys. Take a look.

Daniel Alfredsson, RW, Ottawa Senators (49 games, 14 G, 14 A, 28 Pts., minus-12, 19:21 ATOI)
In his nine previous seasons, the talented winger hasn't had fewer than 70 points. This year, Alfredsson is on pace for less than 50. That's a pretty significant drop-off. Yeah, the Swedish star hasn't had a lot of help, but he still has to do more. The 38-year-old has two more years left on his current contract. The cap hit is $4.875 million, but his actual salary drops from his current $7 million annual payout to $4.5 million next season. In 2012-13, that number dips to $1 million. That makes you wonder if he'd decide to retire rather than play for a salary that isn't a heck of a lot more than the league minimum. Would the Senators, who are slipping out of the playoff race, trade their longtime captain?
