On Tuesday, the league announced its All-Star selections, which includes a group of 12 rookies. To those selected, I say congratulations! To those who were snubbed (we know who you are -- cough, cough Danny Briere, among others), I say enjoy the free weekend. There's really nothing wrong with a few days off, is there?
Anyway, I figured the announcement was my cue to offer my Midseason All-Rookie choices. Here are my first and second teams.
The first squad
C: Logan Couture, San Jose Sharks
Sadly, Couture had to leave last night's game against Toronto in the second period after a knee-to-knee collision with Leafs winger Colton Orr. The club says he has a "lower-body" injury. On the Sharks' television broadcast (Comcast SportsNet), ice-level reporter Brodie Brazil indicated that Couture's injury "might" be to the thigh, not knee. I guess we'll find out more in the coming hours. I hope it's not serious. Right now, he leads all rookies in goals (19), game-winning goals (5), power-play goals (5) and shots (150).
