What a wild night in Buffalo. A resilient Russian team rallied for five (count 'em, five!) third-period goals, overcoming a 3-0 deficit en route to a gold-medal-winning 5-3 victory over Canada in the World Junior Championship finale at a packed (mostly with stunned Canadian fans) HSBC Arena.

Team Russia was never willing to surrender throughout their medal-round march to the title. They scored two late goals in their quarterfinal matchup against Finland to force overtime before winning in the extra session. In the semis, after blowing a 2-0 lead against Sweden, they scored in the final two minutes to push that game into overtime, too. They won in a shootout.

Then, there was Wednesday night.

Instead of trying to dissect how the young Canadians failed to nail things down in the final 20 minutes, I prefer to tip my cap to the Russians, who found a way -- in a very hostile environment -- to make something special happen. That was a victory for a lifetime. Enjoy!
