Cyrus Jones was back in his element. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound athlete from Baltimore (Md.) Gilman doesn't mind being a college football prospect, but he loves being a high school player."It was a great feeling to get back out there and compete," the four-star prospect said. "It was just great to let the recruiting take a back seat for a little bit, get out there and have fun and go at it."Jones did just that in a 68-9 win over Maryland Christian on Friday. He found three ways to score: on a 99-yard kickoff return, a 40-yard run off a sweep and a 50-yard punt return."I think I've become smarter about the game, just being more experienced out there," Jones said when asked how he has improved since his junior season.Recruiting, however, is never too far removed from Jones' mind. He has set up an official visit to Notre Dame on Oct. 18 and is planning an official visit to Virginia Tech, possibly on Sept. 16.The trip to Notre Dame should be an interesting one. Some have speculated that the Fighting Irish are the team to beat, but Jones said he's been drawn south to Alabama and Auburn, where he visited this summer."I really don't have any favorites but of course some schools are going to stand out some more," Jones said.Jones said he's considering announcing his decision during the Under Armour All-America Game in January. If not, then probably shortly thereafter from his school. He doesn't expect he'll wait until national signing day in February.Other schools have also impressed Jones, who said he's still considering West Virginia, Penn State and Maryland. Jones said he'd also like to see what happens with Ohio State's NCAA issues and who will be its long-term head coach before he can truly evaluate the Buckeyes. Jones said he's quite fond of Ohio State interim head coach Luke Fickell."I have a real good relationship with him," Jones said. "If he's the coach, that would be a good benefit for me."
