• Hegarty picks Notre Dame

Offensive tackle Matthew Hegarty (Aztec, N.M.) became the ninth prospect to commit to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish late Wednesday night. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound versatile prospect becomes the fourth offensive lineman to pick Notre Dame joining big time tackle prospect Jordan Prestwood (Plant City, Fla.), guard Conor Hanratty (New Canaan, CT) and tackle Tony Springmann (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger)."After taking a few days to think about everything, I came to the decision of Notre Dame because they are truly the complete package," Said Hegarty via text message. "Their academics are excellent, the football heritage is incredible and the situation couldn't be any better. I enjoy the spread and look forward to playing tackle for the Irish."Hegarty picked the Irish after considering offers from Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Florida State, Minnesota, San Diego State, New Mexico and Harvard among others.Hegarty's commitment gives Notre Dame four ESPNU 150 Watch List prospects that includes 2011 Under Armour All-American tight end Ben Koyack (Oil City, Pa.). Koyack, 6-foot-5, 228-pounds, committed two days ago.The Fighting Irish are much more active in Texas than in recent years behind the efforts of assistant Kerry Cooks, who played in high school at Irving Nimitz.Two more offers for Johnson
Andrew Johnson (Miami/Southridge) continues to pick up offers at a rapid pace. Wake Forest and Marshall are the latest programs to offer the 5-foot-9, 164-pound corner prospect. The duo joins Louisville, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Kansas State, Maryland, Ole Miss, Minnesota and Florida International in offering.Johnson is planning June trips to Central Florida, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Wake Forest, Ole Miss and Miami as well as a possible trip to Texas Tech in September. Two Miami Southridge defensive back prospects signed with Texas Tech in the 2010 class, Phillip Warren and LaVaughn Whigham.
