Running back
Brandon Williams (Brookshire, Texas/Royal) has had a whirlwind type of week. On Monday, the 6-foot-1, 196-pound football and track star switched his pledge from Baylor to Oklahoma, and on Thursday night he accepted an invitation to play in the 2011 Under Armour All-America Game. The prestigious honor is not only big for Williams, but for the Brookshire Royal community, which hasn't been known for producing big-time, athletic talents."I want to set a good example in our community. Our community isn't really known for great athletes and I want to open doors for the other children and my teammates," Williams said. With his recruitment now officially behind him, the talented runner with amazing acceleration is focused on taking home state track and field titles. Having already run a 21.1 (fully automatic timed) 200-meters, he has lofty goals for the regional qualifier meet tonight at Brenham High and next week's regional meet."I want to take state and run a 20.5. Hopefully our relays get out of region and we go to state." Williams said.Williams entertained offers from Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas A&M, Arkansas, TCU, Kentucky, Houston, Texas Tech, Purdue, Oklahoma State, East Carolina and Tulsa, among others. He rushed for 1,815 yards and 14 touchdowns, as well as catching 38 passes for 512 yards as a junior after a broken collarbone sidelined him for much of his sophomore season.Williams is the fifth Texan to commit to play in the Under Armour All-America Game, joining defensive end
Nathan Hughes (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak), defensive tackle
Desmond Jackson (Spring, Texas/Westfield), athlete
Quandre Diggs (Angleton, Texas/Angleton) and linebacker
Anthony Wallace (Dallas/Skyline).
