Upon hearing of his selection to the 2012 ESPNU Watch List, DE
Alex Balducci (Portland, Ore./ Central Catholic) feels motivated, despite losing in Week 1 to state 6A rival Lake Oswego. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound second-year starter uses personal accolades as incentives to push himself to work harder and he rated last week's performance as solid."My teammates and I definitely have things we need to improve on," said Balducci.Combining Balducci's size and arm length with his speed and quick feet, schools like the potential versatility that he brings to the table. "Alex is what we like to call a lunch pail kid," said Central Catholic coach Steve Pyne. "He is tremendously hard working both in the weight room and on the practice field. Alex is an extremely coachable kid who just plain wants to keep improving. He is a solid student in the classroom and the film room and gains more confidence in his abilities each day."Currently playing defensive end, nose tackle, guard and tackle, Balducci is drawing strong interest from Oregon, Washington, Oregon State and Duke. However, he doesn't have a clear front-runner."I want to try and keep my focus on this season," said Balducci. "I have things I need to work on to make myself better."He has made unofficial visits to Washington, Oregon and Oregon State.
