In 2010, the Kentucky Wildcats produced a stunning five players in the first round. Three of them went in the lottery. John Wall went No. 1 overall. 2012 should be a bit of deja vu. I currently have four Wildcats in my top 15, including at No. 1, and one more in my top 35. But there could be one big difference.
In 2010, the Wildcats were the only team in the SEC to produce a first-round pick. This year a few other SEC teams, such as Florida and Vanderbilt, should make major contributions to the bounty. In fact, we are projecting as many as six SEC players in the lottery and 10 SEC players as potential first-round picks in 2012.
I spoke with a number of NBA scouts to get a take on five players they'll be scouting closely in the SEC this season. Here's the breakdown:
1. Anthony Davis, F/C, Fr., Kentucky
