With a 4-0 win over West Brom and Manchester United's surprising 1-0 loss at Wigan, Manchester City trimmed United's league lead to five points with five games remaining. Here are five notes on Wednesday's proceedings in the title and relegation races.

• Entering Wednesday, SPI projected Manchester City with a 3 percent chance to win the league title. After gaining three points on United, City's odds more than tripled to 9.7 percent. United benefits from three home games in its last five matches, and the April 30 showdown at Etihad Stadium is United's only remaining game against a team in the top six of the table.

• Manchester City is unbeaten in 27 straight league home games, last losing to Everton in December 2010. This is City's longest home undefeated streak since a 47-game tear from 1919 to 1921.

• Wigan defeated Manchester United for the first time in 15 meetings across all competitions, including 14 Premier League games. The 14-game league win streak was the longest between any two teams in Premier League history.

• Wigan's victory is even more shocking considering the Latics' home form this season. They began the match with the fewest home wins (2) and points (13) of any team in the league. United remains the league's best road team, with 13 more away points and four more away wins than any other team.

• Wigan has again begun playing well when it matters most. Less than three weeks ago, it was the most likely team to be sent down, facing odds over 90 percent. With three wins in their past four games, the Latics have reduced their chances of relegation to 39 percent.
