Some takeaways from the Champions League MatchDay three.

Manchester United 2, Otelul Galati 0

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney scored two penalty goals to set an English record with 26 career Champions League goals, breaking Paul Scholes' mark of 24. Rooney has scored all seven of United's penalty goals in the EPL and Champions League since the 2010-11 season.

Nemanja Vidic received the first red card for Manchester United in a Champions League match since the 2009-10 season

Real Madrid 4, Lyon 0

Cristiano Ronaldo took a game-high 10 shots (five on target) and now has the most shots and shots on target in the Champions League. Fellow La Liga stars Lionel Messi and Giuseppe Rossi are currently second and third in both categories. Messi plays tomorrow at home against Viktoria Plzen.

Xabi Alonso completed 115 passes for Madrid, the fourth most in a Champions League match this season. Madrid as a team completed 648 passes, the third most in a CL match this season.

Manchester City 2, Villarreal 1

Sergio Agüero scored in the 93rd minute to give Manchester City its 1st-ever Champions League win. Agüero now has 9 goals in 10 matches for City in all competitions. City is undefeated in 14 straight European home matches.

Inter Milan 1, Lille 0

Lille completed more passes (450-247), completed more passes in the final third (165-43) and created more goal scoring chances (5-2) but still lost at home to Inter. The French champions lead their group in passes completed, pass completed in the final third, and chances created yet sit in last place in their group with only two points.

Benfica 2, FC Basel 0

Benfica substitute Oscar Cardozo scored on the longest goal of the Champions League this season. His free kick in the 75th minute was from 39 yards away.

Ajax 2, Dinamo Zagreb 0

Theo Janssen created four goal scoring chances for Ajax in their win against Dinamo Zagreb. He now leads the Champions League with nine chances created this season.
