• U.S. faces tough challenge

•  The U.S. is winless in eight straight matches against South American countries, losing seven games and tying one. The last U.S. victory was in March 2007 over Ecuador. That is the only time the Americans have defeated a South American side under Bob Bradley.

•  Jozy Altidore's"> goal on Saturday against Poland was his first in his last six international appearances, since May 29 against Turkey. Altidore now seeks to score in consecutive international appearances for the third straight year. In 2008, he tallied against Mexico on Feb. 6 and Cuba on Oct. 11. Last year he followed up a March 28 goal at El Salvador with a hat trick four days later against Trinidad & Tobago.

•  This is the Americans' penultimate scheduled game for the 2010 calendar year, with the finale, a friendly, on Nov. 17 at South Africa. Landon Donovan currently leads the team with three goals this year, which would be the lowest total to lead the U.S. in a calendar year since Brian McBride and Joe-Max Moore topped the charts with three goals apiece in 1999. Altidore and Clint Dempsey are the other Americans on the roster to score multiple goals in 2010.

•  With Donovan finishing the MLS stretch run with Los Angeles and Carlos Bocanegra returning to Saint-Etienne, Dempsey is both the leading cap winner and goal scorer on the roster. He has scored 19 goals in 67 career appearances and would be the sixth American to score 20 international goals.

•  After Colombia failed to reach the 2010 World Cup, Hernan Dario Gomez took over as head coach in May and is 2-2-2 since then. Gomez has worked magic before, helming Colombia to its last World Cup berth in 1998 and taking Ecuador to its first World Cup in 2002.
