All of the controversy surrounding now former Ohio State star Terrelle Pryor has created a referendum of sorts about the former uber recruit, who many had touted as the top prospect in the Class of 2008. (ESPN had him ranked No. 4 behind Da'Quan Bowers, Julio Jones and Will Hill.)

The Pryor news, coupled with something Pat Fitzgerald told me the other day, got me to thinking this is an ideal time to re-rank that 2008 class. Hence this week's Top 10:

1. Andrew Luck, Stanford, QB: The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Texan was ranked No. 61 overall by ESPN and the seventh-best quarterback prospect behind Pryor, Dayne Crist, Mike Glennon, Kyle Parker, Blaine Gabbert and EJ Manuel. Several of those guys have had solid careers. Gabbert, who along with Pryor had the most success, was a top-10 NFL draft pick. But Luck soars above this group as a talent. He is big, smart, accurate, tough, fast ... he's as close to a "can't-miss" as any QB prospect in years. Luck was outstanding in his debut season in 2009 then made a huge leap from that in 2010, completing 71 percent of his passes with a 32-8 TD-INT ratio. It's almost a lock that he would've been the first pick selected in April's NFL draft had he opted to enter the mix. He enters this season as the frontrunner to win the Heisman. "I didn't think he had a great arm," ESPN recruiting analyst Tom Luginbill said. "I still don't think he has an elite arm. He doesn't have a Matthew Stafford, Ryan Mallett or Cam Newton arm. He has a very good arm, but Luck is far more of a better athlete than I thought he was."
