Cowboys' Jason Garrett 'disappointed' Randy Gregory hasn't played much

FRISCO, Texas -- When the Dallas Cowboys selected Randy Gregory in the second round of the 2015 draft, they thought they were getting a a first-round talent with the 60th overall pick but were well aware of the issues the defensive end had while at Nebraska.

Gregory had his suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy extended another 10 games on Thursday. He will be eligible to return to practice on Dec. 19 and play the final two games provided he does not have any more issues with the policy.

“It’s disappointing he hasn’t played a lot of football for us,” coach Jason Garrett said. “There’s no question about that. We’ll continue to try to provide the right structure for him at the team level and at the league level and hopefully he’ll respond the right way.”

Gregory is allowed at the team’s facility to work out and take part in meetings. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Gregory will continue to receive treatment. He spent the summer at a treatment facility in Massachusetts.

“The biggest thing for him is just to take it day by day, understand the consequences of his behavior and live with the consequences and do everything he can from this point forward to get himself right,” Garrett said. “The league came down with that ruling and he has to live with that, we have to live with that. It ain’t changing. So you go back to work and you focus on what you need to do to get yourself better each and every day.”
