The Dolphins are treating
Brandon Marshall's hip surgery, which will keep him out until training camp, as the price of doing business for a 100-catch receiver. The concern for Miami shouldn't be this year. Marshall bounced back from last year's operation and stayed at the 100-catch level. The concern, though, should be long term. Marshall plays a physical brand of football at wide receiver, which will take a toll on his body. That style and more operations might mean he could have difficulty staying at this high level of play for the next five seasons.
Revis' worth: The Jets and cornerback
Darrelle Revis haven't starting talking numbers yet, but it's pretty clear he won't ask for $20 million a year. It will be hard for him not to ask for $15 million a year based on
Nnamdi Asomugha's contract with the Raiders. It will be a tricky negotiation for the Jets, but the organization is pretty good at coming up with contracts to keep its top players.
QBs on Carroll's mind: The Seahawks' signing of quarterback
J.P. Losman shouldn't come as a surprise. Pete Carroll came to town knowing the importance of the quarterback position and he wants the best competition possible. He acquired
Charlie Whitehurst as a possible heir to
Matt Hasselbeck. He had a chance to look at
Mike Teel as the No. 3, but he must have felt Teel lacked the mobility to suit Carroll's style.
Webb in Vikings' QB mix: The move of Vikings sixth-round pick
Joe Webb from wide receiver to quarterback is interesting, but has nothing to do with
Brett Favre. Webb was an athletic quarterback at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He could work out long term as a developmental receiver, but the Vikings might look at him as a candidate for the third quarterback job, too. If that's the case, Webb could impact
Sage Rosenfels more than Favre, who is still contemplating retirement or playing this season.
