• Important hire upcoming for Shanahan

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan continues to fill out his staff, and don't be surprised if he ends up getting Mike Solari as his offensive line coach. According to a source, Solari, who lost his job in Seattle after Pete Carroll was hired to replace Jim Mora, was at the Redskins' facility early in the week for an interview. The offensive line hire is one of the most important for Shanahan because of his zone-blocking scheme. Solari is one of the better zone-blocking coaches.Phillips slighted? Cowboys owner Jerry Jones probably needs to do a little bit more than pick up the 2010 option for head coach Wade Phillips. Phillips is coming back and there are discussions about adding a year to his contract. If the Cowboys go with just the 2010 option renewal, there is a chance Phillips might be making less than offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, which probably isn't right.Nolan's exit: It's still hard to believe defensive coordinator Mike Nolan is leaving the Denver Broncos for the same job with the Miami Dolphins. Nolan and Denver head coach Josh McDaniels had a mutual parting on Monday, but it was Nolan who was mainly responsible for the team's 6-0 start. The Broncos made some of the league's best defensive adjustments after halftime. Nolan was responsible for that. Plus, Denver allowed nearly eight fewer points a game than it did in 2008.
