• Lions not ready to shut down Stafford

The Lions officially ruled out quarterback Matthew Stafford for Sunday's game against the Ravens, but they aren't planning on shutting him down for the final three games yet. Stafford took a hard hit from Bengals linebacker Dhani Jones on his separated left shoulder in Week 13. Instead of forcing him to endure the pain, the Lions decided to rule Stafford out and start Daunte Culpepper. Stafford has taken a beating this season, but he still wants to get a few more starts to further his development.New wrinkles for Jets? Starting Kellen Clemens instead of the injured Mark Sanchez against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, the Jets might try to do more motion plays with their receivers and try to expand the playbook a little. With a rookie quarterback, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has had to simply things. Clemens understands the motion plays because he's been with Schottenheimer for years.Ailing Falcons: It can't be an encouraging sign to Falcons head coach Mike Smith that quarterback Matt Ryan (toe), halfback Michael Turner (ankle), tight end Justin Peelle (concussion), guard Harvey Dahl (ankle), cornerback Chris Houston (hamstring) and center Todd McClure (knee) sat out Wednesday's practice. The Falcons are 6-6 and in a world of hurt because of injuries.
