• Cable close to earning one more year

Victories over the Bengals and Steelers could be moving Raiders coach Tom Cable toward some job security for next season. Even though the Raiders are 4-8, the team is making progress with Bruce Gradkowski at quarterback. That might be enough for Al Davis to give Cable another season. That's why Sunday's game against the Redskins could be an important one. If the Raiders can beat the Redskins and get to five wins, they would have a decent chance of going 6-10, which might be enough to keep Cable on the sidelines for another year. The decision is Davis'.Conventional Dolphins: With Ronnie Brown on the injured reserve list, the Dolphins are phasing out the Wildcat and trying to be more conventional on offense. The Dolphins didn't run any Wildcat plays during their Week 13 victory over the Patriots and they had only two Wildcat offerings on the play sheet. They did try two option plays involving quarterback Pat White, so the imagination is not completely gone.Eagles willing to wait: The Redskins' decision to place Clinton Portis on the injured reserve list because of his concussions should come as no surprise. Portis was still a couple weeks away from being totally cleared to play and the team needed the roster spot because of all its injuries. The Eagles might be thinking of doing the same thing with Brian Westbrook, who isn't ready to play because of his concussion problems. However, they don't need the roster spot right now, and would like to see if there is a way for him to be available in the postseason.Tough sell: There were only about 36,000 people in attendance for the Jaguars' important home victory over the Texans in Week 13, but there seems to be a big push to sell out Sunday's game against the Dolphins. About 9,000 tickets are left. Dolphin fans could buy a portion of the those tickets, but this game could reveal a lot about the future of football in Jacksonville. At 7-5, the Jags have clearly exceeded expectations.
