• Moore of the same in Carolina

John Fox didn't name a starting quarterback for the Panthers' Week 14 game against the Patriots, but it will be Matt Moore. According to a source, Jake Delhomme is probably going to miss two or three games because of the broken bone in his right hand. He missed Sunday's 16-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Moore made his first start of the season.49ers reserving judgment on Smith: 49ers coach Mike Singletary expressed Monday that he's pleased with the progress of quarterback Alex Smith, but he wasn't ready to designate Smith as the franchise's quarterback for next season. "So far so good,'' were Singletary's words of praise for Smith, who had his first career 300-yard game in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Seahawks. Singletary said Smith has been making good decisions. Still, he will have to show more for the organization to commit to him next season.Minimal gains: Defensive end Gaines Adams, who cost the Bears a second-round choice next year, was a surprise scratch for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. Coach Lovie Smith said Adams became the choice because he felt the Rams were a running team and Adams would have fit better against a passing offense. Adams clearly hasn't established himself in the Bears defense since coming to Chicago in the trade.Favre fading? Don't go overboard in thinking Brett Favre is starting the late slide he's experienced over the past four seasons. Favre completed 30 of 45 passes for 275 yards and threw two interceptions in Sunday night's 30-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Favre usually drops his completion percentage from the mid sixties to the mid fifties after Week 11. Most of that could be attributed to playing in cold weather. Even though Favre struggled a bit on Sunday night, he did complete 66 percent of his passes. That's not bad.Healthy returns: By resting Shawne Merriman and Luis Castillo against the Browns on Sunday, the Chargers should get them back on the field for this week's game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Chargers are pretty healthy for this game.Runyan sighting: Because of some injuries along the offensive line, the Chargera were able to get veteran tackle Jon Runyan on the field for a few plays on Sunday. Runyan was signed as an insurance policy at right tackle. So far, the Chargers like what they see in Runyan and will keep preparing him in case they need him as a starter in the final weeks of the season and the playoffs.
