• Orton should consider cautious approach

It sounds as though Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton is going to try to rush back from his left ankle injury. That could be a little dangerous. Last season in Chicago, Orton rushed back from a high ankle sprain in his right leg, but his accuracy and mobility fell off after his return. This ankle injury isn't as bad because it's not on his plant foot and it's not believed to be a high ankle sprain. Still, if he does play -- Orton didn't practice Wednesday -- he might not be as effective as he was earlier in the season. If he's not accurate in the short zones, the Broncos' recent offensive woes could continue.Lewis making a difference: Sherm Lewis, hired as a consultant by the Redskins, has made a little bit of an impact on the team's offensive production. The Redskins are averaging 20.3 points a game since he's been calling plays, 8.1 points more than they were averaging when Jim Zorn was calling the plays.Edwards lacking backers: It sure didn't help Trent Edwards' long-term future as a starting quarterback Wednesday when his main offensive weapons -- Terrell Owens and Lee Evans -- didn't speak up for him after he was benched in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick. Owens said he thought the starting job was Fitzpatrick's to lose after Fitzpatrick filled in for Edwards while he was recovering from a concussion. That's just another sign that Edwards' days as the Bills' franchise quarterback have come to an end.
