Rex: Bills have tons of heart (0:59)

Rex Ryan discusses the fight his team has shown through the early part of the NFL season. (0:59)

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Rex Ryan revisited the Buffalo Bills' 40-32 loss to the New England Patriots, saying Wednesday that the Patriots were "trying to embarrass" the Bills late in their Week 2 matchup.

"I think it was better for me to get a real grasp of our team and how we are and all that type of stuff. And our emotions got the better of us," Ryan said. "But what I love was how we battled back. And when a team was clearly trying to embarrass us, we stood up to them and said, 'All right, here we are, we're gonna give you our best shot, regardless of what the scoreboard is.' And we scored three touchdowns to their three points.

"So we'll see. Again, we'll play that one down the road, but I think the thing that you realize is how, when we talk about building a team that represented our community, and the pride that we would take in playing 60 minutes, that showed it right there. If anybody ever doubted it."

It's the second time this week Ryan has referenced the Bills' fourth-quarter comeback bid against New England as the spark for their blowout win against the Miami Dolphins last weekend.

"Our bounce-back started in the fourth quarter of that New England game," Ryan said Monday. "You know back when, it is easy to throw out the white flag, you are down all those scores -- we did just the opposite. We actually made it a game … and against a team that was trying to stick it to you."

Ryan later continued: "We know we are a long way away from matching up, I guess, with New England. Obviously they blew us out."

Ryan also referred to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady when answering a question Wednesday about Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

"Well I like the fact that he beat Brady twice," Ryan said of Manning's Super Bowl victories. "So I like that. But nah, I'm good. I'm not all the way over the Brady butt-kicking he did against us. But as a team, we're just getting better."
