When running back Montrell Dobbs graduated last spring, it looked like there would be a huge void in the Ansonia (Conn.) High School backfield, but it didn't take long to find a capable replacement.Dobbs, who rushed for 3,445 yards and 45 touchdowns during his senior season, is spending a year at Milford Academy in New Berlin, N.Y., before he joins the University of Connecticut program. Sophomore Arkeel Newsome is doing his best to make Ansonia fans forget about Dobbs, however.Through two games, Newsome has rushed for 528 yards and 10 touchdown on 50 carries. He ran for 196 yards and four TDs in Friday night's 36-6 victory over Woodland.Boston College and Connecticut are among the schools that have shown early interest in Newsome. How some of the other top recruits in the Northeast performed last weekend:• Armani Reeves (Easton, Mass./Catholic Memorial): Penn State-bound defensive back rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns and also hauled in a TD pass in a 28-20 triumph over St. John's of Shrewsbury.• Kye Morgan (Somerset, N.J./Franklin): Rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries in a 21-13 triumph over Phillipsburg. Morgan, who committed to Virginia in August, needs 39 yards to break the school's career rushing record (3,356 yards).• Devin Fuller (Old Tappan, N.J./Old Tappan): Four-star athlete has been plagued by a hamstring injury, but completed 8 of 12 passes for 199 yards and four touchdowns in a 39-7 victory over Indian Hills. Boston College, Connecticut and Rutgers are among the 10 schools Fuller said he's still considering.• Abner Logan> (Cambridge, Mass./Dexter School): Top uncommitted recruit from Massachusetts rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in a 44-31 victory over Hyde (Conn.). Logan, who is being recruited primarily as a linebacker, said Connecticut, Maryland and Northwestern are currently at the top of his list.• Delon Stephenson (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville): Rutgers-bound running back rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown and 10 carries, caught two passes for 76 yards (one TD) and returned in interception 72 yards for a TD in a 37-0 triumph over Monroe.• Dalton Crossan (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Schem North): Ran for 192 yards and three touchdowns during a 22-24 victory against West Islip. Syracuse and Buffalo are Crossan's FBS offer.
