Running back
Stacey Bedell (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) thought he was going to play college football at Villanova. Then he thought about it some more and wasn't so sure.Bedell committed to Villanova in July, but pulled back on that commitment one day after Villanova's opener -- a 42-7 loss to Temple -- Saturday."When I went down there [in late July] I wasn't really comfortable," Bedell said. "I didn't think I would fit in. I wanted to make sure it was the right decision. I thought about it and realized it was too early for my decision. I've pretty much ruled [Villanova] out."When he committed to Villanova, Bedell had a scholarship offer from Army and offers from four other FCS schools: James Madison, New Hampshire, Fordham and Stony Brook. Earlier this year Bedell said he had an offer from Rutgers, but said Tuesday that Rutgers has not made an offer."They said they were going to, but then they got a commitment from someone else at my position," he said. "Rutgers wanted me to come for defense [defensive back]."Although he's small (5-foot-9, 165 pounds), Bedell proved to be durable last season, when he rushed for 1,658 yards and 18 touchdowns on 208 carries. He also had 12 receptions for 177 yards and two touchdowns, and recorded 105 tackles. He ran for 869 yards and 10 touchdowns on 106 carries as a sophomore.Bedell made it clear that James Madison is the school that's currently at the top of his list."They offered me the same day as Villanova," he said. "I didn't consider them because of the distance [from his home], but now I'm starting to rethink it. Right now JMU is the No. 1 school that I'm interested in."
