College coaches know a lot more about tight end Brendan O'Neil (Burlington, Mass./Buckingham, Browne & Nichols) than he knows about them.O'Neil, who is entering his junior season, has attracted preliminary interest from about a dozen FBS schools, but said he hasn't started to think about his college plans."I'm not really sure what schools would be best for me at this point," O'Neil said. "It's so early, and I don't even know what I want to study. I don't know what each school offers. I'd have to do some research.""He's gonna be a good one," Buckingham, Browne & Nichols coach John Papas said. "He's got good size (6-foot-5, 230 pounds) and a lot of big-name schools have asked about him."O'Neil, who also plays varsity basketball, said Boston College, Connecticut and Penn State are the schools that have shown the most interest. He attended camps at BC and Syracuse during the summer."[BC offensive line coach Sean Devine] told me I need to have a good junior year because they're going to be watching me and my junior film might determine whether or not they offer me a scholarship," O'Neill said. "I heard the same thing at Syracuse: Film is important."When he was a freshman, O'Neil played behind Blake Barker, who was rated as the No. 12 tight end in the country. Barker selected Harvard over Stanford.O'Neil said some schools may recruit him to play defense. He started at defensive end last season, but will move to outside linebacker this year."Playing defense in college -- that's through what Coach Papas has told me," O'Neil said. "I'll play on either side of the ball. I have no preference. I like both. Whatever gets me on the field and playing time."Brodie's list growsThree-star offensive tackle Ryan Brodie (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) trimmed his list of potential schools to six earlier this month -- at least that's what he thought.West Virginia offered Brodie a scholarship Thursday, and Brodie's father, Bryan, said Ryan will take a close look at WVU.Cincinnati, Connecticut, Miami, Purdue, Rutgers and South Carolina are the other schools Brodie is considering.
