Malik Golden (Newington, Conn./Cheshire Academy) and Jake Kiley (New Hampton, N.H./Hew Hampton) got their first look at each other last fall, when Golden's Cheshire Academy team defeated Kiley and New Hampton Prep, 49-20, in the New England Prep School Athletic Council's Dan Rourke Bowl.A mutual respect was born that day, and grew when each attended a Penn State camp earlier this year. "We're going to be roommates -- at least that's the plan," Golden said Wednesday night, shortly after he announced that he would be attending Penn State next year. "We got the best of him that day, but Jake's a great player."Kiley, who is expected to play defensive back in college, committed to Penn State last month, and then did what he could to make sure Golden would be there with him. Golden had narrowed his choices to four schools -- Boston College, Connecticut, Iowa and Penn State -- when he selected the Nittany Lions."It's one of the toughest decisions I've ever made in my life," Golden said. "To be honest I went with my gut feeling. Every person I talked to had nothing but good things to say about Penn State. I just confirmed that during my visit there [last weekend]."Kiley is one of the people Golden consulted. Now it looks like Golden may join him in Penn State's defensive backfield. Although many schools recruited him to play wide receiver, Golden said Penn State liked him best as a defensive back."Wherever the team needs me," Golden said. "We'll see when I get on campus."Golden made 48 receptions for 680 yards and five touchdowns in nine games last season. His best performance came against New Hampton, when he rushed for 197 yards and caught seven passes for 105 yards.Golden became the fourth player from New England to commit to Penn State this year, joining Kiley and Catholic Memorial (Roxbury, Mass.) teammates Camren Williams and Armani Reeves."It's all done," Golden said. "It feels good."
