In the recruiting world, it's like pushing a do-over button.Quarterback Erich Berzinskas (Clinton, Conn./Milford Academy) wasn't happy with his playing opportunities following his senior year at The Morgan School, so he decided to restart the recruiting process by spending a post-graduate year -- or at least a semester -- at Milford Academy, a prep school in New York known for placing players at the Division I level."Going into my senior year I had a lot of looks -- BC, UConn, Temple, New Hampshire -- but I was playing for my third coach in four years," Berzinskas said. "It was a new system, we were young and there weren't a lot of highlights."Schools told me I was on their recruiting board, they liked me and they were close to offering, but then a quarterback would commit. They said if I did a [post grad] year I'd be back on their recruiting board. I thought coming here was my best option."In addition to playing for three coaches in four years, Berzinskas had a couple of other factors working against him in high school. He missed most of his junior season with a broken collarbone, and The Morgan School competes against the smallest schools in Connecticut's classification system. His best opportunity came from New Haven, a Division II school."A lot of kids come here to get their grades up," Berzinskas said. "Others come to get more exposure. That's pretty much what I'm here for."Berzinskas will start for Milford Academy when it opens its season against Atlanta Prep on Saturday. He said Iowa is the school showing the most interest at this point. Iowa coaches watched Berzinskas perform during spring practice, and he took an unofficial visit to the school earlier this month."I've been talking with Iowa pretty consistently," he said. "They told me they're extremely interested, or they wouldn't have had me come on a visit. They just want to see my play at the next level of football."My coach told me a few other [FCS] schools want to see me play. I'm open to anything right now."
