You can cross North Carolina off the list of schools that class of 2013 wide receiver Charlie Callinan (Westfield, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) is considering. Of course that's subject to change.Callinan had planned to visit UNC while he was vacationing in North Carolina this week, but he scrapped those plans when North Carolina fired head coach Butch Davis last week."I'm staying away from that situation for now," Callinan said. "If they get back on track and get a real coach, North Carolina would be a school I'd love."Rutgers is Callinan's only FBS offer at the moment. Rutgers broke the ice with the talent-rich St. Peter's Prep program earlier this year, when both running back
Savon Huggins -- New Jersey's top recruit from the class of 2012 -- and defensive lineman
Keith Lumpkin joined Greg Schiano's program. Lumpkin became the first St. Peter's Prep player to commit to Rutgers since Schiano has been the school's head coach.St. Peter's Prep tight end
Michael Giacone -- one of Callinan's close friends -- committed to Rutgers last month."I've already built a good relationship with the Rutgers coaches, and I've taken an unofficial visit there," Callinan said. "I've been up there a couple times. I like it."Once they got Keith and Savon they jumped all over St. Peter's Prep. [Rutgers] is gonna be a good program from here on."Callinan said Boston College, Connecticut, North Carolina, Penn State, Virginia and West Virginia are the other schools that have shown the most interest in him. He was the No. 3 receiver for St. Peter's Prep last season, but expects to play a much larger role this fall."I've been working on my speed and route running this summer," he said. "I'm down to a 4.46 in the 40. I consider myself a pretty good all-around receiver. I'm open to anything right now."
