The Rutgers coaches knew they landed a talented tight end when Michael Giacone committed to their program Friday. What they may not have known is they picked up a tireless recruiter as well.Giacone had been trying to steer many of his Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep teammates toward Rutgers even before he committed. His main target lately has been four-star safety D.J. Singleton."Yeah, Giacone's the recruiting guy," Singleton said. "Before any of us committed he would get us together and talk about Rutgers. Giacone's been in my ear ever since he committed."Singleton has 15 verbal offers, and a tentative top five that does include Rutgers. Wisconsin, Michigan State, Tennessee and Miami are the other schools on that list."That could change, because I'm trying to keep all my options open," Singleton said. "Right now that's my top five." Connecticut and Syracuse are among the schools that have made verbal offers, but Singleton said he hasn't had recent contact with either school. Most schools are recruiting Singleton to play safety, but St. Peter's Prep coach Rich Hansen said he could envision Singleton as an outside linebacker in college as well."He played strong safety in a 3-4 four us, which is similar to an outside linebacker," Hansen said. "We may move him to outside linebacker so we can use his athleticism."Singleton said he has no timetable for making his college choice."My father just asked me that question the other day," he said. "Right now I'm trying to focus on the upcoming season. I'll decide whenever I feel comfortable. I'm just gonna wait and see where I fit in."
