Villanova offered running back Stacey Bedell (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) a scholarship shortly after Bedell ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash at Villanova's camp last week. The time was particularly impressive since Bedell ran with a sprained ankle that prevented him from competing in the rest of the camp. He injured his ankle during a 7-on-7 tournament in late June."After that it swelled up pretty good," Bedell said. "I wasn't planning on doing anything, but they asked me if I could tape it up and run the 40."Bedell committed to Villanova -- a program that won the 2010 FCS national championship -- last Friday, one day after Villanova made its offer. He said Villanova's possible move to the FBS level was a big factor in his decision. He was also considering Army, James Madison, Fordham and Stony Brook."It's a great academic school and they told me they're announcing in September that they're going [FBS]," Bedell said. "I wanted to prove to everyone that I can play at that level."Although last week's camp was Bedell's first visit to Villanova, he said he's comfortable with his decision."It's a lot of weight off my shoulders," he said.Minnesota lands Twitty
Three-star defensive lineman Dominic Twitty (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) wanted to play FBS football outside of New Jersey and reached his goal when he committed to Minnesota on Tuesday."They said if I come in and work hard I could play early in my career," Twitty said. "I'm 6-2, 265 so right now they're looking at me as a defensive end, but they said I could grow into a defensive tackle. It doesn't matter to me. I just want to help the team."Twitty said he was impressed with Minnesota's coaching staff. Temple was his only other FBS offer."It's a school that plays against good competition and a place where I'll get a lot of exposure," Twitty said.Minnesota has 11 verbal commitments.
