Say this about ESPNU 150 quarterback Chad Kelly (Wheatfield, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute): He's thorough.Even after Kelly felt certain that Clemson was the right place for him, he took a trip to Alabama this week just to be sure."I'd say I made the decision a couple weeks ago," Kelly said after he gave a verbal committment to Clemson on Thursday. "I wanted to take that Alabama trip just so I'd have no regrets."The No. 1 thing that stood out about Clemson is definitely the family-type atmosphere. I never met nicer people than the ones I met at Clemson."Kelly narrowed his choices to seven schools last month. That list included Alabama, Buffalo, Florida State, Michigan State, Purdue and Syracuse.Kelly said that although he could envision himself at any of those schools, no school was a close second to Clemson."Right when I went there [in April], in my heart I knew that was the place," he said. "It's gonna be fun. We're gonna score a lot of points."Kelly, the ninth commitment in Clemson's Class of 2012, said the opportunity for playing time early in his career was also a factor in his decision. Clemson has four quarterbacks on its roster. Sophomore Tajh Boyd is expected to be the starter this season."I'm definitely gonna compete for the job," Kelly said. "I know Tajh is the starter and I look forward to learning under Tajh, but [Clemson quarterbacks coach Chad Morris] said anyone can compete for the job."Kelly is expected to be the only quarterback to sign with Clemson in 2012. Three quarterbacks signed with the Tigers last February."I'm probably gonna go back [to Clemson] in July," Kelly said. "I can't wait to get down there. It's like my second home."
