Vondell Langston (Everett, Mass./Everett) was starting to feel nervous, and perhaps with good reason. He was three weeks away from completing his junior year in high school, and had hardly heard a thing from college football recruiters. Not a good sign for someone who is hoping to play linebacker at the FBS level.Things took a turn for the better this week, however, when Connecticut contacted Langston and told him it was interested in taking a closer look."They asked me to go down to their camp," Langston said. "My coach said Syracuse has taken an interest too."I've just been sitting around patiently. I'm good friends with [Everett running back] Manny Asprilla [who has committed to Boston College]. He was talking to all these coaches and I was wondering why I wasn't getting any calls. I got a little jealous."Langston said Connecticut is a school he was hoping to hear from, and that he plans to attend a one-day camp there on June 12. He's planning to attend a Syracuse camp as well."I've heard good things about Connecticut," Langston said. "I heard the campus and the facilities are beautiful. Hopefully when I go down for the camp I'll get the tour."A lot of guys around here go to BC or Syracuse. I just want to be different. You never know, I may go there and it may not be for me."Langston played linebacker and running back for an Everett team that finished the 2010 season with a 13-0 record after beating St. John's Prep in the Eastern Massachusetts Division I Super Bowl."My main position is linebacker," he said. "Making plays downhill -- I think that's what I do best."Langston said he's received mail from a handful of FCS schools, including New Hampshire and Rhode Island."I'm just hoping and praying for that first offer," Langston said. "That will be a good day for me."
