Although quarterback
Nick LaSpada (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) is expected to receive a fair amount of FBS scholarship offers, he seems to have turned his attention to the Ivy League.Harvard and Princeton are the Ivy League schools that are pursuing LaSpada most aggressively. He attended Harvard's junior day Saturday."Harvard has been coming on strong lately," LaSpada said. "I'm really interested in them. I'd definitely say Harvard is my top choice right now. They said [admission] shouldn't be a problem as long as I have good SAT scores. I'm going to take those in May."LaSpada, who wants to study criminal justice, said Maryland and Boston College are among the FBS schools that have contacted him. He's planning to attend camps at Boston College, Harvard and Maryland this summer.LaSpada said he's leaning toward attending college close to home, and if BC made an offer it could move to the top of his list."They're looking at me as a quarterback, but also talked about me playing slot or safety," LaSpada said. "They asked me if I have a preference and I told them I don't."LaSpada, a junior, was named the Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year following his sophomore season. However, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his right knee in his final game as a sophomore. He was healthy at the start of the 2010 season, and is currently playing center field for the Billerica baseball team. "I think I want to stay in the area," he said. "If some of the bigger schools offer then I might have to check things out and weigh my options. If I have to choose between an Ivy League school and an [FBS] school with strong tradition I think it would be a tough choice."
