• Jamie Lundmark worth considering

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

George W. Bush was fresh in office the last time those words were uttered regarding Jamie Lundmark's fantasy hockey status. In desperate times, Lundmark might be a suitable sleeper for your team. Lundmark was a first-round selection of the New York Rangers in the 1999 NHL entry draft and was a star at the world junior championships for Canada in 2000 and 2001. That, however, was the peak of his career, and he never really caught on in the NHL. During the 2002-03 season, Lundmark posted a career-best 19 points in 55 games with the Rangers. Since then, he has bounced around the league. After he posted 33 points in 51 games last season for the Erie Monsters of the AHL, the Flames took a chance on him (for the second time). He has been a role player for Calgary in 20 games this season but recently has spent time in the top six alongside Daymond Langkow and Todd Bertuzzi. Lundmark has eight points in his past eight contests and 15 points on the season.

Yes, this is what the fantasy hockey season has come down to: fighting over every last goal and every last rotisserie point. You might think your team isn't desperate enough to consider Lundmark, but with so few games remaining, things change. There is little point in waiting for Ryane Clowe or Paul Stastny to return from injury so that you can use a roster spot on either of them. You need to use that roster spot, and adding Lundmark doesn't seem like such a crazy idea.

A quick note for those on some kind of roster-move budget: The Blackhawks have the most games remaining as of this writing, so Brent Seabrook, Cam Barker or Nikolai Khabibulin should appear a bit more attractive than Kris Letang or Johan Hedberg. The Hawks have yet to play three more games than either Pittsburgh or Atlanta. Check the standings before you make a decision between two players to see who will take the ice more.

Just make sure you fight to the finish. It's the honorable thing to do, no matter where you end up in your standings.

Alex Tanguay is finally clicking with Alexei Kovalev and surprisingly is available in more than 20 percent of ESPN.com leagues. Tanguay had a pair of assists Saturday night to give him 10 points during a five-game streak. If you are lucky enough to play in one of the leagues in which he is available, you know that to do. … If you aren't into Joe Pavelski, that's cool. It's your call. I will note that he should be relied upon more if Patrick Marleau's lower-body injury costs him any time. Marleau "tweaked something" in the second period of Saturday's contest and is not slated to take part in Sunday's skate. Pavelski has a five-game points streak and is available in 30 percent of ESPN.com leagues. … As Tim Kavanagh noted in Thursday's fantasy hockey blog entry, Jean-Sebastien Giguere owners once again need to scoop up Jonas Hiller. After Hiller nearly stole the starting job from Giguere in January, Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle turned back to his tried-and-true starter to push the Ducks into the postseason. However, things went very sour Friday night when Giguere was pulled not once, but twice during a 5-3 loss to Edmonton. All in all, he made four saves on seven shots. As his replacement (twice), Hiller stopped all 12 shots he faced. Hiller has had two other strong outings in the past week. … It's happening in spurts, but Andrew Ebbett is a valuable commodity in deeper fantasy leagues. Thanks to a role among the talented top six for Anaheim, the rookie center has seven goals and 21 assists. Not bad, but it gets better when you note he has played just 41 games, half a season. Give him due consideration if assists are a weak spot. It's pretty easy to snag a helper when you are touching the puck on the ice with Teemu Selanne. Even while getting stamped on by the Sabres and Bruins, Leafs Alexei Ponikarovsky and Mikhail Grabovski still managed to find the box score. The headliners of Tim Kavanagh's Thursday blog each had a point in a 5-3 loss to Buffalo on Friday, and they combined for five points in a 7-5 loss to Boston on Saturday. Meanwhile, Nikolai Kulemin can be considered a consolation prize for owners in deeper leagues. You may remember the rookie from preseason hype. He is spending time on Toronto's first line with Poni and Grabovski and has earned four points in his past four games because of it.

Although the Ottawa Senators have lost their past couple of contests, one widely available Senator continues to make a bid for ownership in deep leagues. Nick Foligno extended his points streak to five games in Saturday's loss to Atlanta. He has spent time with Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza on the top line and should continue to play a role on the Sens' top six in the final few weeks. … Available in virtually all ESPN.com leagues, David Perron has awoken from his latest slump. The slick-handed sophomore has five points in three games on the Blues' version of a "young stars" line with rookies T.J. Oshie and Patrik Berglund. Perron will look to finish a respectable second season in the range of 50 points and should be activated in any league deeper than a standard one. … The injury to Cory Murphy has allowed yet another Tampa Bay defenseman to step up his game because he has played more minutes. Matt Lashoff has five points in five games and is earning more ice time as the Lightning continue to run out of relevant blueliners. I'd reserve a recommendation to deep leagues at this point, but there is no doubt Lashoff could help some shallow leaguers who are hurting for a fourth defenseman. … Cory Stillman had a three-point Saturday night and continues to get a solid helping of ice time in the Panthers' top six. He is more available than you might think, as he's on the wire in 47 percent of ESPN.com leagues. … I continue to note Matt Hunwick at every opportunity. He had three assists Saturday while back on defense for Boston. Even though he has played just a handful of games, has been a healthy scratch and has played forward during the past month, Hunwick has nine points in the past seven games he has dressed for the Bruins.
