          Tom Brady earns record-tying eighth AFC Player of Month award

          FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September, a league-based award that is his eighth career honor. That ties quarterback Peyton Manning for the most ever.

          Brady led the Patriots to a 3-0 record and was 96-of-133 for 1,112 yards, with nine touchdowns and no interceptions. He became just the fourth player in NFL history to throw for 400 regular-season touchdowns.

          Meanwhile, kicker Stephen Gostkowski was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month, the third such honor for him over his 10-year career.

          Gostkowski converted all seven field-goal attempts (four of which came from 40 yards or longer), as well as all 14 point-after attempts. Gostkowski set the NFL record for most consecutive extra points, breaking Matt Stover's record of 422.
