Michigan State trolls Wolverines in recruiting tweet

Legendary Michigan coach Bo Schembechler began his long tenure in Ann Arbor with a famous rallying cry: "Those who stay will be champions." The phrase has become a part of Wolverines lore.

But Michigan's in-state rival twisted the slogan a bit to twist the knife on the Maize and Blue. Spartans staffer Curtis Blackwell II sent out a tweet Thursday afternoon containing a picture of the team's players who hail from Detroit. On the right side of the photo is a message that reads: "Those who stayed are already champions."

"Since Mark Dantonio arrival in 2007 every Spartan that has stayed at MSU for 4 years has won a Big Ten championship," says the fine print under the bold phrase. Banners for Michigan State's 2010, 2013 and 2015 Big Ten championships hang in the corner of the photo. Michigan has not won a share of a Big Ten title since 2004 and none outright since 2003.

Detroit is a critical recruiting battleground for both programs, as well as other around the Big Ten. Blackwell, whose official Michigan State title is director of college advancement and performance, was a key figure in Detroit high school football and recruiting before Dantonio hired him.

Your move, Jim Harbaugh!
