Tight end Taylor McNamara (San Diego, Calif./Westview) was hoping to take his first official visit this weekend, but will likely have to postpone the trip.McNamara, an Arizona commit, had a visit scheduled with Colorado this weekend but some flu symptoms will likely wipe out the trip."I've been throwing up the last few days and have a 103-degree fever," McNamara said. "It's awful timing because we have a big game on Friday and I really wanted to see Colorado. I'm still going to suck it up and play in the game but I don't think I'll have the strength to do the visit."My flight was at 4:00 a.m. ET in the morning on Saturday and I think I'll just be wiped out. I'll re-schedule for sure though because I like Colorado a lot. Coach [Jon] Embree is awesome, he's a former tight end himself and they have one of the best coaching staffs in America. They need tight ends and playing time is available so it's a good situation for sure."McNamara said he'll also officially visit Cal and Notre Dame."I'm going to Cal (Oct. 14) and Notre Dame (Oct. 21)," McNamara said. "I'm still committed to Arizona but I just want to make sure it's the best place for me. They have struggled a bit on the field this year and that has been disappointing but I think they can bounce back and beat USC this weekend."I haven't set a trip date with Arizona but I could still do that later on. I've been there before and I'm mostly taking these visits to schools I haven't seen. I just want to play the process out and keep an open mind to everything."Daniels enjoys Boise State tripFour-star safety Reggie Daniels (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) has five schools on his short list and took his first official visit of the year last weekend to Boise State.Along with the Broncos, Daniels is also looking at Arizona State, Arkansas, Oregon and Washington. "I liked it at Boise State a lot," Daniels said. "The overall atmosphere at the game and just the feeling I got being on the campus were the high points for me. Boise is a really cool college town and Boise State football is a real big deal there. The support they get is pretty amazing and the crowd was really hyped up the whole game."I felt real comfortable with the players and coaches, everyone treated me great. One of their safeties, George Iloka was my host and we got along great. I really like their defense and how aggressive they play. I was watching the safeties and I think I would fit in really well playing with those guys."Daniels is committed to taking all five of his official visits before making his decision and has one other visit lined up."I'm going to Oregon (Oct. 14)," Daniels said. "That's the only one I have set up but hopefully I'll be able to lock in the other ones pretty soon here. I really want to take all five visits so I can compare each of the schools to each other. I know everyone says that and it's hard to do but that's my plan as of right now."Porter close to USC offerI had a chance to check out La Habra (Calif.) linebacker Aaron Porter Thursday night when they took on Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco. I wasn't alone as coaches from Cal, San Diego State and two from USC were on the sidelines as well. The Highlanders had a rough night losing to the Braves 41-6 but Porter still showed why he's rated among the top linebackers in the nation. There's a different sound when Porter makes a tackle. You can close your eyes and tell it was Porter making the play as the pads just pop a little louder and numerous "oohs" and "aahs" soon follow. Porter was battling a head cold on this night but was still making plays all over the field. He's an instinctive player who was just as effective coming on a blitz, playing the run or dropping back in coverage. His closing speed was very impressive and despite getting blown out on the field, Porter's motor never stopped and he competed hard until the final whistle. The linebacker committed early to UCLA after narrowing his choices to also include Cal and Boise State. Following the game he said his commitment to the Bruins is still solid but that hasn't stopped other schools from contacting him."I'm still committed to UCLA," Porter said. "My commitment is pretty firm but Arizona and USC are still recruiting me pretty hard. USC hasn't offered yet but I think they're close and I saw Coach [Kennedy] Pola and Coach [Ed] Orgeron at the game tonight. They told me they were coming so we'll see if they decide to offer or not."For me, a lot depends on how UCLA finishes up the season but I do have interest in USC since they're local and a great program. Florida State and Ohio State have started to recruit me as well but I want to stay local so it would be cool to get the offer from USC, just to have that as an option. I'm not sure they'll take three 'backers but I guess I'll find out soon enough here."
