Four-star safety prospect Shaq Thompson (Sacramento, Calif./Grant) took his first official visit to Washington this past weekend and came home raving about his time in Seattle.Thompson, who's No. 22 in the ESPNU 150, was an early commitment to Cal but opened up the process saying he wanted to take all five of his official visits. This past weekend, he saw the Huskies beat the Bears 31-23 in a key Pac-12 matchup."I had a great time, I was actually surprised how nice it was up there," Thompson said. "I didn't really know what to expect coming in to be honest but the trip as a whole was better than I thought it would be. It's a real family atmosphere at UW and I loved being around the players and coaches."The coaches are high energy and really get everyone fired up. Being around the players on game day was really cool. I loved it when the team got hyped before the game and ran out of the tunnel, my adrenaline was pumping for sure. Just being in that atmosphere was probably the highlight for me but I had a lot of highlights to be honest."Thompson was hosted by his former Grant teammate James Sample. "James really likes it there," Thompson said. "He has a shoulder injury so he's probably going to have to redshirt but he likes the team and the school a lot and told me I would fit in well there. We played safety together at Grant and he looked out for me when I was younger so it was great to see him again."The Husky crowd was great and I saw a great game for sure. I wasn't really rooting for either team because I like both schools a lot. I just love watching college football, I could do it all day long, so I enjoyed being in that environment."Thompson hasn't set up any other official visits but has made one change to his final list."I added Arizona State and took out USC," Thompson said. "It has nothing to do with the game over the weekend and ASU winning, that's kind of a coincidence. I just like ASU a little better right now. I also want to visit Michigan, UCLA and Notre Dame. I know I'll visit Cal but I'm not sure if it will be an official or not because I've been there so many times already."
