Three-star safety
Zach Hoffpauir (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) chose California and will play football and baseball in college. After narrowing his choices to also include Stanford and Arizona, the talented safety decided Cal was the best fit for him."I visited Cal in the summer and really liked it there," Hoffpauir said. "The new facilities they're building are going to be incredible and I really like the coaching staff a lot. They offered me back in June and Clancy Pendergast, the defensive coordinator there, has been recruiting me really hard since the summer."Coach Pendergast has a great reputation coming from the NFL and I'm excited to work with him. I also talked with the baseball coaches and I'll do both sports, which is something I really wanted to do. The Cal baseball team made the world series last year so that's exciting for me as well."In addition to his final three, the defensive back also had offers from Air Force, Arizona State, Colorado, Duke, Navy, Northwestern, UCLA, Utah State and Washington. Hoffpauir, who's one of the biggest hitters in the region, will be a great complement to fellow safety
Shaq Thomson (Sacramento, Calif./Grant), an early Bears commit who backed off but is still expected to sign with the Bears.
