Jerico Richardson (Mission Hills, Calif./Alemany), one of the more underrated defensive backs in California, committed to UCLA on his way to the Bruins' game against San Jose State on SaturdayRichardson camped with the Bruins twice in the summer, working out once at receiver and then later on at corner. He impressed the coaches playing defensive back enough to pick up a scholarship offer just a few weeks later in early August."They actually like me for safety," Richardson said. "I thought about committing right when they offered but I decided to wait things out a bit and see where my recruitment was going. I was hearing from a few other schools and Hawaii and San Jose State had also offered but I felt loyal to UCLA since they were the first to offer me."Other schools talked about it, but UCLA actually put it out there to me and showed me how much they wanted me. I like Coach [Rick] Neueheisel a lot, he's a very good man. I was going to wait and commit in person at the game but I got too excited and decided to just call him up on my way there and get it done."As a junior, Richardson started both ways for one of the state's top teams. He caught 29 balls for 513 yards and four touchdowns and earned all-league honors in the secondary as well. He's a three-year starter on both sides of the ball as well but will focus on defense in college."He's an extremely aggressive player and is the best tackler on our team by far," Alemany coach C.J Fulwilder said. "His receiving skills make him a great ball hawk in the secondary and I really think he can play corner or safety in college. He's the leader on our team as well and is just a great all-around football player. I think UCLA really got a good one here."
