• Luke Kaumatule picks Stanford

Luke Kaumatule (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou), One of the top defensive ends in the West region, committed to Stanford. Kaumatule has had the Cardinal leading for some time and it always seemed like more of a case of when, not if, he would commit to Stanford. Kaumatule had offers from a host of programs including Arizona, BYU, Cal, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Utah and Washington. His final four were the Cardinal, UCLA, Oregon and Cal, with the Bruins coming in as the runner-up."I actually committed last week, Kaumatule said. "I really liked everything about Stanford. Academics were the No. 1 thing for me, I said that from day one and academically, you just can't beat Stanford. Not only that, they have one of the best football programs in the nation so I'm getting the best of both worlds right now."The commitment to the Cardinal helped offset what was a pretty tough week for the rush end. In his team's season opener last week, Kaumatule tore his ACL and will miss the rest of his senior season."I was planning to go through the process and commit late in the year but I just decided now was the time to do this," Kaumatule said. "I didn't see a need to put off my decision any longer when I knew where I wanted to go. The injury kind of put things in perspective and showed me how important it is to pick a school with great academics like Stanford. Football can be taken away at any time so it's great to always have something to fall back on."
