• Sun Devils, Beavs in mix for Julian Brooks

Arizona has been a solid leader for athlete Julian Brooks (Chatsworth, Calif./Sierra Canyon) for some time and although the Cats are still in good shape, two other programs have closed the gap.Brooks is a versatile playmaker and is getting recruited at both receiver and safety. He caught 34 balls for 858 yards and 15 touchdowns on offense and added 32 tackles and 10 interceptions on defense. "Arizona is still on top but Oregon State and Arizona State are definitely in the mix as well," Brooks said. "At Oregon State, they like me for safety and I would have the opportunity to play a lot as a true freshman and maybe even start. "ASU is a place I just really like and I think they have a really good program. Arizona likes me for receiver and I really like their offense. They have kind of been my dream school and I've thought about committing but right now, I just really don't know what I'm going to do. I'm really interested in USC and would love to see if that would be an option for me and I want to prove a couple of things on the field this year as well."At this point, look for Brooks to take a few official visits before making his decision but if he decides to pull the trigger early, Arizona will be the likely destination.Beaver sets up first visitDefensive back Brandon Beaver (Compton, Calif./Dominguez) will take at least four of his official visits and just set up his first trip to Big Ten country."I just got off the phone with Coach [Carl] Pelini at Nebraska," Beaver said. "We talked about two dates, Sept. 10 when they play Fresno State and Oct. 8 when they play Ohio State. We actually have a bye the weekend of the Ohio State game so that's when I'm going to take that visit, it makes the most sense and that will be a great game as well."I also want to take visits to Washington, Arizona and UCLA but I don't have dates with any of them yet. I'll probably do a couple of them during the season and then maybe at least one visit will after our season is over in December."Beaver has come very close to making an early commitment multiple times. He was actually a silent commit to UCLA last spring and then after backing off, was all set to commit to Washington before deciding to hold off."I just felt like it was too early and I didn't know enough about all the schools to commit so early," Beaver said. "I'm definitely glad I waited because I'm learning new things all the time and I feel I'm more prepared now to go through the process."Before, I didn't think I needed to visit UCLA officially but now, I think it's good to give every team the same shot to show what they're about. I went to their scrimmage last weekend and I really like the direction they're going in. Washington is definitely on the rise and Arizona has had a good defense and quality corners for a long time now so I have some great options."
