Athlete Shaquille Powell (Las Vegas/Bishop Gorman) is one of the top-rated backs in the state and is currently sitting on seven scholarship offers and has two schools out in front."Right now, I really like ASU and Vandy," said Powell, who also has offers from Fresno State, Northern Arizona, Illinois, San Diego State and UNLV. "I know for sure I'll take official visits to both of those schools and those two stand out right now. I'm not sure if I'll take all five of my visits. I'll maybe do at least three of them but if I find the right place, I'll go ahead and commit early."Vandy is in the SEC, the best conference in America and I like their academics too. I'm also close with their coaching staff and I think their program is going in the right place. ASU is close to home and I know a lot about them since we see the Pac 12 on TV all the time here. They're also a really good program and I like the way they use the running backs."Powell plays for one of the nation's top programs and the Gaels will be gunning for their third straight state title and fourth in the last five years. They open their season against Arizona powerhouse Chaparral this weekend and then will take on Seffner (Fla.) Armwood in a game that will be televised on ESPN.Powell plays both ways for the Gaels but said everyone is recruiting him strictly for running back.
